Certainly the most recognizable of the draught breeds in this country, the Clydesdale is noted for its even temperament, intelligence and willingness to work. Most of the horses range for 16.2 to 18 hands and weigh between 1600 and 1800 pounds. Some of the more mature stallions and geldings are taller and weigh up to 2200 pounds. The foot at every step must be lifted clean off the ground and the inside of every shoe made plain to the person standing behind.
